Why I Felt Called To Intern at LGW
My name is Malia Schmelzer. I am a junior at the University of Maryland—College Park (go Terps!), majoring in Spanish and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE), with a minor in Human Development. My parents separated and divorced during my early childhood. While I knew this had an impact on me, I did not realize the extent to which God wanted and wants to heal me. I so often wanted to hide my pain that I did not acknowledge how broken I was and am. Life-Giving Wounds has helped me recognize more of the places where I was and am hurting, so as to let Christ more deeply into them and transform them into places of even deeper encounter with Him. Life-Giving Wounds has helped me embrace my identity as a beloved daughter of God. During my free time, I enjoy working out (lifting, skiing, running), reading, and playing games with family and friends.
My Hopes for This Year
This year, I hope to help facilitate real encounters with God and walk alongside others as they experience His healing presence firsthand. Through this internship, I want to help people feel God's tender love touch and heal their wounds, so they can love more fully and become who God made them to be. I hope also to be able to better receive God's goodness and generosity as He continues to pour into my life.
