We Honor Your Stories
One of the most important things we believe Life-Giving Wounds can do as a ministry is to present the real stories of suffering and healing of adult children of divorce and separation. Stories are often the most powerful means in changing society and individuals. They change people’s perspectives. They help us find deeper healing. They make us discover we are not alone.
Each person’s story is a unique grace that can touch souls and bring others closer to Christ, including oneself. There is something powerful about writing out your story that helps a person process their wounds. We therefore want this space on our website to be a safe place to share your stories, help you continue to untangle your wounds, and to find your voice against the dominant societal narrative about divorce that minimizes your pain. So from time to time, we’ll feature stories on this blog.
We could call these “Stories of Healing from the Field Hospital,” which is in reference to Pope Francis’ now famous quote:
“The thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful; it needs nearness, proximity. I see the church as a field hospital after battle. It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars! You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else. Heal the wounds, heal the wounds. ... And you have to start from the ground up.” (A Big Heart Open to God, America Magazine September 19, 2013)
We couldn’t agree more! The Church does need to be a field hospital and we see Life-Giving Wounds ministry as being one of those field hospitals we want to set up in every diocese and as many parishes as possible. This field-hospital approach to ministry follows the approach presented in the Gospel with the beautiful parable of the Good Samaritan and of other saints too - such as Saint John Paul II’s emphasis in his apostolic letter on Salvific Suffering to be “sharers in the sufferings of Christ.”
Do you have a story as an adult child of divorce or separation about an aspect of suffering, healing, and faith that you would like to share?
If so, then feel free to submit one to info@lifegivingwounds.org for review and consideration. Do you want to write it anonymously? No problem! We are happy to do that as well. Please just let us know.
Note: we can’t promise to publish every story, but trust us that your time will not be wasted. Every time you sit down to write your story you will discover new insights.
