4 Marriage Tips for Adult Children of Divorce [video]

Many people are familiar with the depressing statistic that men and women whose parents split up are more likely themselves to get divorced. Estimates range from 40%-200% more likely. #sadtrumpet

While there are a number of reasons this is the case - including never seeing conflict handled well, the impulse to flee at the first signs of relationship trouble, difficulty in truly trusting one’s spouse - the biggest thing for an adult child of divorce or separation to remember is that you are not doomed to repeat your parents’ mistakes.

Again: you are not doomed to repeat your parents’ mistakes!

This is something we feel quite strongly about! Thanks be to God, His healing power is radical and transformative. He frees us from our bad patterns of behavior and heals us to move forward in faith, hope, and love. One of our main goals with Life-Giving Wounds is to give men and women from divorced homes the confidence that they can have lasting, happy marriages - that it is possible for love to last forever.

To that end, we (Dan and Bethany - founders and directors of Life-Giving Wounds) recently created a video for a virtual marriage retreat called “Be More,” by the wonderful ministry Witness to Love.

In our video, we discuss four key tips for adults with divorced or separated parents, who want to build a strong marriage for themselves, and we provide discussion questions at the end for couples. The video - as well as the whole retreat - is directed at both engaged and married couples. It could be helpful for anyone, really, who wants to have a strong marriage one day.

We are grateful to Witness to Love for the opportunity to be part of their wonderful retreat! We encourage all engaged and married couples to sign up for this FREE opportunity to strengthen their relationships. There are fourteen talks total on a variety of topics. Sign up here!

A big thank you to The Holy Ruckus for making our video look so professional!
